In Moody’s announcement to cut the U.S.’ credit rating last week, the agency said its downgrade “reflects the increase over more than a decade in government debt,” while the U.S.’ interest payment ratios are “significantly higher than similarly rated sovereigns.” As yields rise, borrowing costs for consumers and businesses also increase, with likely higher interest rates for mortgages, credit cards and other loans. Larger bond yields also signal lower bond prices as investors seek out bonds with a higher yield.</p>Will The Federal Reserve Cut Interest Rates In 2025?<p>Atlanta Fed president Raphael Bostic told CNBC on Monday he’s “leaning” toward one interest rate cut this year, though he noted it would “take time” as the economy is “in a lot of flux, policy is in flux, there’s a lot of uncertainty.” Bostic said policy makers would need to “wait three to six months to start to see where this [uncertainty]</p> settles out.” New York Fed president John Williams, who spoke Monday at a Mortgage Bankers Association-led conference, reportedly said the Fed would likely take beyond July to better project an outlook for the economy. Traders expect the Fed to keep rates between 4.25% and 4.5%—where they’ve remained since December—with 91.6% odds that rates are unchanged at the Fed’s next meeting on June 18, according to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool. What Do We Know About The Moody’s Downgrade?<p>On Friday, Moody"s downgraded the U.S. government’s credit rating from Aaa—its top prime grade—to Aa1 or high grade, which is one notch below. With its downgrade, Moody’s became the last of the three big ratings firms to lower the U.S. government’s credit rating from the top level. The agency said successive presidential administrations and Congress have “failed to agree on measures to reverse the trend of large annual fiscal deficits and growing interest costs.” However, despite the downgrade, Moody’s changed the U.S.’s outlook from negative to stable, noting: “The US retains exceptional credit strengths, such as the size, resilience and dynamism of its economy and the role of the US dollar as global reserve currency.”</p><p></p>What To Watch For<p>The ratings downgrade and Moody’s concerns about the government’s debt come amid a Republican effort to pass Trump’s signature policy agenda, which will enact $4.5 trillion in tax cuts over 10 years. According to an estimate published by the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the GOP’s big budget bill will add $3.3 trillion more to the U.S. federal debt over the next 10 years. Baker, Jr. v. Ta-Nehisi Coates et al, a copyright dispute in which Baker alleged Coates’ book “The Water Dancer” plagiarized Baker’s book “Shock Exchange: How Inner-City Kids From Brooklyn Predicted the Great Recession and the Pain Ahead.”</p> </p> <p> <p>The court said it lacked a quorum to hear the case, after five of the court’s nine justices—Justices Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor—all recused themselves.</p> </p> <p> <p>The justices did not give a reason for why they were recusing and the court has not responded to a request for comment, but Barrett, Gorsuch, Jackson and Sotomayor all published books through Penguin Random House, whose parent company Bertelsmann was named as a party in the case.</p> </p> <p> <p>It’s unclear why Alito recused himself from the case, though judicial ethics watchdog Fix the Court speculates it’s possible he could have purchased stock in one of the other parties named in the case, such as Apple, Warner Bros. or Disney, or Amazon, which owns MGM Studios, a party in the suit.</p> </p> <p> <p>The justices who didn’t have ethical conflicts determined the case “cannot be heard” as a result of the lack of a quorum, meaning a lower court ruling against Baker will stand.</p> </p>Crucial Quote<p>“Fix the Court has for many years said that the justices should recuse from petitions involving companies — i.e., their publishers — that pay them thousands if not millions of dollars nearly every year in advances, royalties or both,” Fix the Court said in a statement Monday about the recusals. “And now they’ve finally done it.”</p>Surprising Fact<p>Monday’s recusals are only the third time that justices have recused themselves from cases since the court adopted a new—non-binding—code of ethics in November 2023. Barrett recused from a case involving a childhood friend, and Gorsuch stepped down from hearing a case this term that stands to benefit billionaire Philip Anschutz, his friend and former client. The court’s code of ethics directs justices to recuse themselves from such cases, but doesn’t impose any penalties if they don’t.</p>Key Background<p>The 6-3 conservative Supreme Court has faced increasing criticism in recent years over ethics concerns, as Democrats and ethics experts have protested numerous reports uncovering potential conflicts of interests. Alito and Justice Clarence Thomas have faced the most allegations, as Thomas’ wife’s right-wing activism and the justice’s lucrative friendship with oil magnate Harlan Crow have drawn widespread scrutiny. Alito also faced calls to recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election and Jan. 6 riot, after reports surfaced showing flags associated with the “Stop the Steal” movement flying outside his homes. Both justices have denied any wrongdoing or ethical conflicts. While the justices adopted a new, non-binding ethics code in 2023 in response to the criticism, Democrats’ efforts to impose stricter controls on the justices have so far fallen flat. More Building on March 14, 2024 in Washington, DC.</p></fbs-accordion><small>Getty Images</small></p> Key Facts<p> <p> <p>Schumer said in a post on X on Monday the bill he plans will also prohibit the Department of Defense “from using funds to procure or modify foreign aircraft for presidential flights.”</p> </p> <p> <p>“Retrofitting the Qatari plane would cost billions and could never even truly eliminate all catastrophic risks,” Schumer said in the post.</p> </p> <p> <p>News of Schumer’s bill comes about a week after reports began circulating that Trump is planning to accept a luxury plane from Qatar that he will retrofit and use as Air Force One until he leaves office, at which point it would be donated to his presidential library.</p> </p> <p> <p>The bill is titled the “Presidential Airlift Security Act of 2025,” and seeks to “fight back against this blatant corruption and obvious national security risk,” according to a statement from Schumer’s office shared with Forbes.</p> </p>Crucial Quote<p>“Not only would it take billions of taxpayer dollars to even attempt to retrofit and secure this plane, but there’s absolutely no amount of modifications that can guarantee it will be secure,” Schumer said in the statement. “It is now on the Senate to prioritize our national security, protect Americans, and ensure that a foreign-owned plane never gets the call sign ‘Air Force One.’”</p>Key Background<p>Reports of Trump accepting the plane almost immediately drew bipartisan criticism last week, with some Republicans even expressing concern. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said on Fox News the gift could “cloud” the U.S.’ ability to judge Qatar’s human rights record and said it’s “not worth the appearance of impropriety, whether it’s improper or not.” Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told NBC the gift is “rife with legal, ethical and practical impediments, including the potential for espionage.” During Trump’s visit to the Middle East, including Qatar, last week, the Democratic National Committee flew a banner above Mar-a-Lago that read “Qatar-A-Lago.” The plane—a Boeing 747-8 that’s estimated to be worth about $400 million and could be the largest foreign gift to the federal government in history—has not been formally offered, but Trump has insisted it would be a gift to the Defense Department and not him personally and that he would not use it after leaving office. “Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country,” Trump said of the gift on Truth Social. Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the White House was working out legal details and “any donation to this government is done in full compliance with the law and we commit ourselves to the utmost transparency.”</p>What To Watch For<p>The bill appears highly unlikely to pass Congress, as Republicans control both the House and Senate, meaning passage would require a GOP revolt against Trump that would be unprecedented since his return to the presidency.</p><p></p>Big Number<p>62%. That’s how many respondents in a Harvard Center for American Political Studies/Harris poll released Monday thought Trump accepting the luxury plane from Qatar “raises ethical concerns about corruption.” More Democrats took issue with the gift—85% felt it raised concerns—but still 62% of independents and 40% of Republicans also reported concerns. Why didn’t the American people have more accurate information about what he was actually dealing with?”</p> </p> <p> <p>The questions echo those on the right who have repeated claims made during Biden’s presidency that he was concealing a serious illness.</p> </p> <p> <p>A clip of Biden saying during a July 2022 speech that an oil spill in Delaware was the reason “I and so damn many other people I grew up [with] have cancer” is being reshared on social media, though the White House said at the time Biden was referring to non-melanoma skin cancer.</p> </p> <p> <p>A claim from right-wing activist Laura Loomer—and noted conspiracist— last summer that Biden was "in the terminal stage of his illness” and “had a medical emergency on Air Force One” is also getting renewed attention (Loomer cited an unnamed “medical source in DC,” though her claims were never verified).</p> </p> <p> <p>Some doctors have also said it’s unlikely Biden’s diagnosis was sudden, given its advanced stage and his accessibility to screening: Yale professor of radiology and biomedical imagining Howard Forman tweeted that it’s “inconceivable” Biden’s prostate health wasn’t being followed before he left office.</p> </p> <p> <p>Vance, who spoke to reporters as he returned from a trip to Rome to meet the new pope, also said Biden’s announcement—which came days before the Tuesday release of a damning new book about his mental state during his 2024 campaign—shouldn’t stop further scrutiny into his cognitive health during the campaign: “In some ways, I blame him less than I blame the people around him,” Vance said.</p> </p>Chief Critics<p>Donald Trump Jr. in a tweet questioned how “Dr. Jill Biden” overlooked “stage five metastatic cancer,” asking “or is this yet another coverup???” The post erroneously suggests Jill Biden is a medical doctor (she has a doctorate in education) and wrongly states that Biden has stage five cancer, which is not an official medical term. She also had posts criticizing California politicians, and her family said she was passionate about standing up for Americans and Trump’s cause, the New York Times reported—though they didn’t know she intended to travel to Washington. On the day before Jan. 6, she posted on Twitter: “Nothing will stop us … They can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours …. dark to light!”</p>How Did Ashli Babbitt Die?<p>Babbitt was shot by a Capitol Police officer near the House chamber while she stormed the U.S. Capitol. She was rushed out of the Capitol on a stretcher and was declared dead at a hospital. Video footage of the shooting circulated on social media, and after the gunshot could be heard people said, “there’s blood on the floor,” and “we’ve got to get her out of here.”</p>What Happened To The Officer Who Shot Babbitt?<p>More than three months after Babbitt died, the Justice Department said the officer who shot her—later identified as Lt. Michael Byrd, a 28-year veteran of the Capitol Police—would not face charges. They determined there was insufficient evidence to support that Byrd violated civil rights laws when he shot Babbitt, and a federal investigation found it was reasonable for him to fire at her in self-defense or defense of those in the chamber. He also did not face internal punishment after the Capitol Police’s own investigation found his actions “potentially saved Members and staff from serious injury.” Byrd revealed his identity in August of 2021 in an interview with NBC and recounted instructing lawmakers to try and blend in and “look like staff as much as possible.” He called the shooting a “last resort” but said he took “appropriate action.”</p><p></p>What Did The Lawsuit Allege?<p>The lawsuit filed by Babbitt’s family and Judicial Watch, in addition to wrongful death, alleged assault and battery, negligence and; negligent supervision, discipline and retention, among other accusations. They sought $30 million in damages and alleged she “experienced extreme pain, suffering, mental anguish, and intense fear before slipping into pre-terminal unconsciousness,” and that she did not go to Washington “as part of a group or for any unlawful or nefarious purpose,” rather to exercise her freedoms. The suit said she posed no threat to anyone when she was in the Capitol and had previously complied when another officer had directed her to move within the Capitol.</p>What Has Trump Said About Ashli Babbitt?<p>In March, Trump said he’s a “big fan” of Babbitt and she was “a really good person who was a big MAGA fan, Trump fan,” Politico reported. He described her death by saying: “She was innocently standing there, they even say trying to sort of hold back the crowd … And a man did something to her that was unthinkable when he shot her.” At the same time, while talking about potential compensation for Jan. 6 rioters he pardoned, Trump said he would “look into” her death, despite Byrd already being cleared of wrongdoing.</p>Tangent<p>U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger, who is stepping down, said in a statement Monday he was “extremely disappointed,” adding the settlement “sends a chilling message to law enforcement nationwide, especially to those with a protective mission like ours,” Politico reported. Manger took over the Capitol Police after Jan. 6 to restore stability, the Washington Post reported.</p>Key Background<p>Babbitt was one of thousands of Trump supporters who rallied to support the then-president before he left office in 2021, and among the many who headed to the Capitol after the rally. Babbitt was one of four people to die in the crowd on Jan. 6, along with one person who had a heart attack on the sidewalk outside the Capitol, one who appeared to be crushed by rioters and had an accidental overdose, and one who died of a stroke, the New York Times reported. On May 12, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby wrote a note to customers to reassure them “every United pilot is trained for a wide range of potential issues, including radar or communications outages,” linking to a video of the managing director at the airline’s flight training center explaining what happens if there is a loss of communication between air traffic controllers and pilots. “There are several layers of safety protocols in place, including additional facilities that will provide radar services and a safe handoff to the tower facility in the event of an equipment outage,” Captain Miles Morgan says in the video. “On the flight deck, we have advanced safety technology that allows pilots to see other aircraft around us.”</p>What Is The Faa Doing To Ensure Flying Is Safe At Newark Airport?<p>To compensate for a shortage of air traffic controllers and the recent tech failures, FAA is managing the flow of traffic at Newark with a “ground delay,” which limits the number of flights in and out of the airport. In addition, United Airlines has cut 35 roundtrip flights per day from its Newark hub. Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on May 11 morning, Duffy said Newark “100%” needs to scale back its operations, noting: “We have less controllers working the Newark airspace right now. And, you know, we’re having these–these glitches in the system. So we slow it down and keep people safe, that’s what we do.”</p><p></p>Key Background<p>Newark Airport is facing a perfect storm of challenges, including unreliable technology at the terminal radar approach control tower (TRACON) at Philadelphia International Airport, which is responsible for directing aircraft in and out of Newark Airport. In 2003, the George W. Bush administration initiated a plan to establish NextGen, a computerized system to modernize air traffic control. But during the administrations of Obama, Trump and Biden the initiative got mired down by budgetary and logistical challenges and a culture of incrementalism. Likewise, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has warned of a lack of fully certified controllers for over a decade, as staffing was hampered by repeated government shutdowns and the COVID-19 pandemic, but the FAA is still short 3,500 controllers.</p>Could Air Traffic Control Outages Happen At Other Airports Besides Newark?<p>“What you see in Newark is going to happen in other places across the country,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said during an interview on May 11 on NBC’s “Meet the Press With Kristen Welker, adding, “I’m concerned about the whole airspace.” Duffy characterized the equipment as safe, but old. “We have redundancies, multiple redundancies in place to keep you safe when you fly,” Duffy told Welker. “But we should also recognize we"re seeing–we’re seeing stress on an old network, and it"s time to fix it.”</p>What Is The Faa Doing To Fix Its Outdated Technology?<p>Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unveiled a plan to upgrade the FAA’s communications system, the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS). At this time, telecommunications lines feed data from STARS in New York to the TRACON at Philadelphia International Airport, where controllers handle Newark arrivals and departures. The FAA’s plan involves adding three new, high-bandwidth telecommunications connections between the New York-based STARS and the Philadelphia TRACON “to provide more speed, reliability and redundancy,” and to establish a STARS hub at the Philadelphia TRACON so that it no longer depends on a telecommunications feed from the New York STARS hub. The improvements will be implemented “in the coming weeks and others in the coming months, and all by the end of the year,” an FAA spokesperson told Forbes. Duffy has called for Congress to allocate tens of billions of dollars to overhaul America’s strained air traffic control system and replace its antiquated technology. Duffy said his agency would build a new air traffic control system “in three to four years” but needed Congress to make that happen, adding, “we need all of the money up front.”</p>What Is The Faa Doing To Address The Air Traffic Controller Shortage?<p>The agency continues to be challenged by a decades-long shortage of air traffic controllers. Last year, the Republican-led House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic referred Cuomo to the Justice Department, calling for his prosecution for allegedly lying to Congress on his handling of deaths in nursing homes. After Attorney General Pam Bondi took office earlier this year, the House oversight committee’s GOP chair once again referred Cuomo to the DOJ, accusing him of lying to Congress. According to the Times’ report, the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, then led by Ed Martin, began the investigation in response to the second letter. Earlier this month, Trump pulled Martin’s nomination for the D.C. office after he failed to garner adequate support and tapped Fox News host Jeanine Pirro to serve as the interim U.S. attorney for D.C. In 2006, Pirro ran against and lost to Cuomo in the New York attorney general election. During the pandemic, the Fox News host repeatedly attacked Cuomo over his handling of nursing homes during the pandemic and accused him of a cover-up.</p>Tangent<p>News of the investigation into Cuomo’s actions comes a few months after the DOJ moved to seek the dismissal of a corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The DOJ argued that the case, which was brought against the mayor by the Biden administration, would impact Adams’ chances in the mayoral primary and limit his cooperation with the Trump administration on carrying out the president’s immigration policies. Last month, a federal judge dismissed the case “with prejudice,” which means Adams cannot face any future prosecution on those charges. After the dismissal, Adams announced he would not participate in the Democratic Party’s mayoral primary and run as an Independent instead. Adams’ bid to bypass the primary comes at a time he has faced criticism and pushback from Democrats over his embrace of Trump and his policies. 3149357	无图 <p> <p>News Release</p><p>Tuesday, May 20, 2025</p>NIH researchers develop biomarker score for predicting diets high in ultra-processed foods<p> Poly-metabolite scores could reduce reliance on self-reported dietary data in large population studies.</p><p>For the first time, researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) identified patterns of metabolites in blood and urine that can be used as an objective measure of an individual’s consumption of energy from ultra-processed foods. Metabolites are left after the body converts food into energy, a process known as metabolism. Scientists used these data to develop a score based on multiple metabolites, known as a poly-metabolite score, that has the potential to reduce the reliance on, or complement the use of, self-reported dietary data in large population studies. The findings appeared May 20, 2025, in PLOS Medicine. </p><p>“Limitations of self-reported diet are well known. Metabolomics provides an exciting opportunity to not only improve our methods for objectively measuring complex exposures like diet and intake of ultra-processed foods, but also to understand the mechanisms by which diet might be impacting health,” said lead investigator Erikka Loftfield, Ph.D., M.P.H., of NIH’s National Cancer Institute.</p><p>Diets high in ultra-processed foods, which are defined as ready-to-eat or ready-to-heat, industrially manufactured products, typically high in calories and low in essential nutrients, have been linked to increased risk of obesity and related chronic diseases, including some types of cancer. Large population studies quantifying the health effects of ultraprocessed foods typically rely on self-reported data from dietary questionnaires. Such measures may be subject to differences in reporting and may not account for changes in the food supply over time. As a result of this study, researchers now have an objective measure of ultra-processed food intake to help advance the study of associations between ultra-processed foods and health outcomes.</p><p>In the new study, the researchers used data from several existing studies to identify metabolites and patterns of metabolites in blood and urine that were related to ultra-processed food intake. Observational data came from 718 older adults who provided biospecimens and dietary information over a 12-month study period. Experimental data came from a small clinical trial of 20 adults at the NIH Clinical Center who consumed a diet high in ultraprocessed foods (80% of energy) and a diet comprised of no ultraprocessed food (0% of energy) for two weeks each in random order.</p><p>The researchers found hundreds of metabolites that correlated with the percentage of energy from ultra-processed foods in the diet. Using machine learning, researchers identified metabolic patterns associated with high intake of ultra-processed foods and calculated poly-metabolite scores for blood and urine separately. Additional tests found that these scores could accurately differentiate within trial subjects between the highly processed diet phase and the unprocessed diet phase.</p><p>Study participants were older U.S. adults whose diets may vary from other populations, as a result, findings will need to be replicated in other age groups. Researchers recommended that these poly-metabolite scores be evaluated and improved in populations with different diets and a wide range of ultra-processed food intake. As anticipated, Medicaid work requirement provisions are included and preliminary estimates released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) show that this provision would reduce federal spending by $280 billion over ten years, nearly half of all estimated Medicaid savings in the bill.</p><p>If enacted, all states would be required to condition initial and continued Medicaid expansion eligibility on meeting work requirements and to exempt certain individuals from the requirements. KFF analysis shows that 92% of Medicaid adults are either working (64%) or have circumstances that may qualify them for an exemption. In previous analysis, CBO has found that a Medicaid work requirement would not have any meaningful impact on the number of Medicaid enrollees working.</p><p>States would have flexibility in some areas, including determining how many months to “look back” to verify compliance at application and renewal and whether to require more frequent verifications in between renewal periods. States would be encouraged to use available information (through “data matching”) to verify individuals’ compliance with the requirements. The provisions raise many operational and implementation questions, particularly considering the experience of Arkansas and Georgia with implementing work requirements through waivers:</p>Enrollee Awareness / Outreach. Requiring all states to impose Medicaid work requirements would require extensive outreach and education in every state. In Arkansas,lack of awareness and confusion about work requirements (imposed in 2018) were common. Despite robust outreach efforts, many enrollees in Arkansas werenot successfully contacted. The state noted in a recent waiver request that its complex 2018 work requirement policies caused “confusion and uncertainty,” resulting in people not knowing whether they were subject to the requirements.Exemptions. While proponents of work requirements describe them as applying to “able-bodied” adults, some people with disabilities (or serious or complex medical conditions) will be subject to the requirements, as they don’t meet criteria to receive SSI but qualify for Medicaid through the ACA expansion. Similar to the proposed federal legislation, Arkansas adopted safeguards including “medically frail” and “good cause” exemptions and “reasonable accommodations” to try to protect coverage of people with disabilities or other challenges; however, many enrollees struggled to access these safeguards and reported difficulties navigating the process to qualify for an exemption.Data Matching. The bill raises questions about the capacity and ability of state systems (and staff) to accurately “data match” (e.g., using payroll and other data) the work or exemption status of millions of individuals. How effective states are with data matching will likely impact how many individuals will need to submit proof of work hours or exemption status, and ultimately the number of individuals at risk of losing coverage. States with older or weaker systems or less integration may be less effective. But even with effective systems, not all work can be verified through existing data sources. More informal work (like “gig work”) may lack traditional employment records or pay stubs and may not be reflected in state data systems. Many people with low incomes may have inconsistent hours or income, which could create additional hurdles. Arkansas successfully data matched abouttwo thirds of enrollees (exempting them from reporting work hours or exemption status). Among those who had to meet reporting requirements, about 70% did not satisfy the requirements, resulting in 18,000 people losing coverage.Arkansas recently highlighted (in its new waiver request) that limitations with “data matching” led to some individuals with medical conditions or disabilities that prevented them from working to “fall through the cracks” when the state implemented its work policies in 2018.Verification at Application. Only one state (Georgia) has experience conditioning Medicaid eligibility at application on meeting work requirements. Over 18 months since Georgia launched its “Pathways” program, the state has only enrolled 7,000 individuals—far short of the state’s own estimated enrollment of 25,000 adults in the first year and64,000over 5 years. The state’s interim waiver evaluation revealed that work requirements had a significant impact on lowering program enrollment, particularly for adults ages 50-64.Administrative Costs. Implementing work requirements involves complex systems changes (e.g., developing or adapting eligibility and enrollment systems), enrollee outreach and education, and staff training. According to GAO, federal and state administrative costs to implement Medicaid work requirements are sizeable. Recent investigative reporting found Georgia’s “Pathways” program has cost the federal and state government more than $86 million (as of the end of 2024), with three-quarters spent on consulting fees. GAO recently confirmed it is examining the costs of Georgia’s Pathway program, with a report expected this fall.Targeted Work Supports. Research has shown that access to affordable health insurance and care promotes individuals’ ability to obtain and maintain employment, helping people manage chronic conditions and supporting people’s ability to work jobs that may be physically demanding. While most Medicaid adults are already working, some states have launched initiatives to support employment for Medicaid enrollees, without making employment a condition for eligibility. Montana created “HELP-Link,” a free voluntary workforce support program for eligible expansion adults (funded only with state dollars), which also helps participants address barriers to work including transportation and child care. A study of Montana’s Medicaid expansion, including HELP-Link, found an increase of four to six percentage points in labor force participation among low-income, non-disabled adults ages 18-64 following expansion, compared to higher-income non-Medicaid Montanans and to the same population in other states. While federal Medicaid funds cannot be used for work supports (e.g., to help individuals overcome barriers to work like child care and transportation), CBO has found that targeted work supports can help boost employment. Unlike welfare reform, the Medicaid work requirement in the reconciliation bill does not provide supports like child care, transportation, or job training.<p>The bill seeks to implement work requirements on a national scale, including requiring states to verify individuals’ monthly work status and implement a long list of exemptions—policies that proved challenging for Arkansas and Georgia to operationalize and led to 18,000 people losing coverage in Arkansas, without increasing employment.
