This is me, seriously and sincerely, stepping away,” he said.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>He thanked the channel, producers, castmates and fans who supported him along the way.</p><p>“This show has been a big part of my life and a place where many people got to witness my story unfold in real time. I am deeply thankful to the channel, the producers, the crew, my castmates and especially the people who have supported me throughout this journey. Your love, messages and presence have not gone unnoticed.”</p><p>Inno also shared that when he returned for the current season, he was not sure if it was the right thing to do.</p><p>“But I accepted because I wanted to share one last piece of His truth. I hope that people saw my heart. I now feel at peace stepping away,” he added.</p><p> </p><p>He said his decision to leave was not driven by conflict or negativity but by personal growth and spiritual alignment.</p><p>“I love the medium, and while I still value it deeply, I am different now. I’m making choices based on where I am with God, with myself and with the future I want to build.</p><p>“This is not the end of my journey in reality television. CLARY / AFP</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>Cole Palmer scored two goals and made another as Chelsea stunned Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Club World Cup on Sunday, beating the European champions 3-0 at the MetLife Stadium to win the first edition of FIFA’s new competition.</p><p>PSG were the favourites for a game attended by Donald Trump after coming to the United States fresh from winning the UEFA Champions League and having destroyed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals.</p><p>But having been three goals ahead midway through the first half in the semis, this time the roles were reversed as PSG found themselves 3-0 down by the break.</p><p>Palmer opened the scoring midway through the first half and struck again to make it two on the half-hour mark, before taking advantage of passive defending to set up Joao Pedro for the third on 43 minutes.</p><p>A bad day for PSG was summed up when Joao Neves was shown red following a VAR review four minutes from the end for pulling Marc Cucurella by the hair off the ball.</p><p>It was a scoreline that few could have predicted as Chelsea capped what has been a long but memorable season — they are the first ever winners of the 32-team Club World Cup having also won the UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>They will also take away around $125 million in prize money, meaning the prospect of a drastically curtailed summer break before returning for next season will surely feel worth it.</p><p>For PSG, meanwhile, the financial rewards are similar but there will be genuine disappointment at falling short of adding this title to their Champions League triumph and French league and cup double.</p><p>Nevertheless, conquering Europe was always the main aim this season for Luis Enrique’s team, who now have exactly a month to digest this and take a holiday before returning to action in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.</p>– Trump in attendance –<p>There was a real sense of occasion at the MetLife Stadium, with the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline and with President Trump in attendance along with First Lady Melania Trump in a crowd of 81,118.</p><p> </p><p>There was even the first-ever half-time show at a FIFA tournament, adding a Super Bowl feel to a final played at the home of NFL sides the New York Giants and New York Jets.</p><p>As for the football, for the second time in six weeks PSG found themselves involved in a final that quickly turned into a one-sided affair.</p><p>The club claimed a historic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, but here they were ripped apart by Chelsea on another hot afternoon.</p><p>Palmer almost put Chelsea ahead inside the opening 10 minutes, before PSG should have scored at the other end only for Desire Doue to try to pass to Achraf Hakimi rather than shoot inside the box, allowing Cucurella to block.</p><p> </p><p>It was Chelsea who struck in the 22nd minute as Malo Gusto got the better of Nuno Mendes down the right before seeing his shot blocked by Lucas Beraldo. The ball came back to Gusto and he teed up Palmer to finish into the bottom-left corner.</p><p>Palmer has been the face of Chelsea on billboards in the United States during the tournament and he lived up to his star billing by scoring again on the half-hour.</p><p>Released on the right with PSG left-back Mendes out of position, Palmer advanced towards the box before stroking a low shot into the same corner.</p><p>Joao Pedro played a part in the build-up to that goal and the Brazilian, signed during the tournament from Brighton, then got his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0.</p><p> </p><p>Scorer of both goals against Fluminense in the semi-finals, he clipped a shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma after being supplied by Palmer.</p><p>PSG had conceded a single goal in their previous eight matches and they never really looked like producing a comeback, even if Neves headed just wide in first-half stoppage time.</p><p>Substitute Liam Delap almost got a fourth for Chelsea midway through the second half, before Neves was shown red to complete a bad day for PSG.</p> </p> <p> Read more on these topics Chelsea F.C. Picture: GCIS </p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>The DA has branded President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on an immediate “leave of absence” after allegations of links to organised crime as an “illusion of reform.”</p><p>Addressing the nation on Sunday night, Ramaphosa also announced a judicial commission would probe the claims, which he said undermined the constitution and threatened national security.</p>Tightrope<p>Ramaphosa added that law professor Firoz Cachalia had been appointed as interim police minister.</p><p>The president was faced with a tough decision to dismiss the 67-year-old Mchunu, walking a tightrope after a week of speculation about the fate of the police minister.</p><p>Ramaphosa took action after KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi last week alleged that Mchunu interfered in police investigations. He also claimed that a syndicate was operating in Gauteng, involving a drug cartel, politicians and police officials.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> What now for Senzo Mchunu? Police minister’s career could be on the ropes </p> </p> </p><p>ALSO READ: MK party wants Mchunu arrested amid explosive allegations</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Ramaphosa has faced severe criticism for his decision to place Mchunu on special leave instead of firing him, and for establishing another commission of inquiry.</p>‘Illusion of reform’<p>DA leader John Steenhuisen said while it noted Ramaphosa’s announcement of a judicial commission of inquiry into the explosive allegations made by Mkhwanazi, “commissions are only as good as their consequences.</p><p>“Instead, he has once again outsourced executive responsibility to a commission, and South Africans have grown cynical of talk shops, task teams and commissions which they see as buying time and avoiding accountability,” Steenhuisen said.</p><p>Steenhuisen added that the allegations “strike at the heart of South Africa’s criminal justice system.”</p><p> </p><p>“While we welcome the replacement of Minister Mchunu, we also reject the attempt to create the illusion of reform while ANC ministers accused of corruption remain firmly in Cabinet at the behest of presidential prerogative.</p><p>“The presence of Ministers Nkabane and Simelane exposes the ongoing selective and performative accountability that South Africans grow tired of,” Steenhuisen said.</p><p>The DA laid criminal charges against Mchunu on 10 July, highlighting a broader dispute it has had with its largest partner in the government of national unity (GNU) — Ramaphosa’s ANC.</p>EFF ‘appalled’<p>The EFF said it is appalled by Ramaphosa’s decision to suspend Mchunu on “special leave” rather than removing him entirely from his position.</p><p> </p><p>“This so-called ‘special leave’ is a cowardly deflection, designed to shield a corrupt Minister whose involvement in organised crime has been laid bare.</p><p>“We additionally reject the legally and constitutionally baseless decision by the president to appoint an acting Minister of Police who is not a current member of Cabinet. This is a direct violation of Section 98 of the Constitution, which states: ‘The President may assign to a Minister any power or function of another Minister who is absent or otherwise unable to fulfil the functions of office,"” the EFF said.</p><p>The Constitution, however, does allow for two ministers to be appointed from outside of Parliament, which may allow Cachalia to act in the role going forward.</p>‘No time for commission’<p>Good Party secretary-general Brett Herron said the country does not have time for another commission of inquiry.</p><p> </p><p>“The appointment of a commission, while well-intentioned, is too slow, too cumbersome, and too costly. Picture: Michel Bega</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>Prof Adri Drotskie, acting dean and academic director of the Johannesburg Business School (JBS) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), disproves the old adage that “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach…”</p><p>Before moving to academia, she had a successful career with some of the biggest brands in South Africa, something she says helps her “bring business into the classroom”.</p><p>The classroom and education have always been her passion. Drotskie’s career started in education as she studied through an education bursary.</p><p>Her bachelor’s degree was in investment management, so finance was a big interest of hers. She then accepted a position in Transnet’s finance department, where she was exposed to marketing, and she decided to do an honours degree. She ended up in the strategy department, “where I found my niche and passion”.</p><p>Addicted to lifelong learning, Drotskie subsequently obtained an MCom in Business Management and an MPhil in Future Studies.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> A new school in Gauteng set to bring relief to overcrowding </p> </p> </p><p>From Transnet, she moved to Absa, where she continued working in strategy and later served as general manager in strategic marketing.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>“However, I always wanted to go back to education and started lecturing on the MCom programme at UJ. I completed my PhD and moved to UJ permanently.</p><p>“I was offered the position of MBA director at Henley Business School, where I served for five years, after which UJ lured me back, where I have been the past five years, initially as director of the School of Management and currently as academic director of JBS.</p><p>“Whereas most people start in academia and then enter the corporate world, I did it the other way round. I see it as a big benefit in the fields I specialise in, to bring business into the classroom.</p><p>“I also believe that you take on opportunities that come your way and experiment as best you can with new opportunities along the way.”</p><p> </p><p>ALSO READ: Consumer Commission warns South Africans after revealing rogue companies</p>Positioning JBS among the best<p>She realises that taking UJ into the upper ranks of successful business schools is a daunting task, given the track record of more established business schools in the country. But she firmly believes the direction in which the seven-year-old JBS is heading will set it apart.</p><p>Business schools are mainly ranked based on their accreditation status, and JBS is now applying for its first accreditations, she said.</p><p>“You need to go through a cycle of offering programmes and achievements before you can apply for accreditations.</p><p> </p><p>“Our MBA specialises in digital transformation, and this very important driver or disruptor is entrenched in all the curricula of the modules.</p><p>“Business leaders need to be equipped with an innovative and global mindset, utilising future technologies and digital transformation for societal impact.</p><p>“We are also the only school that offers a fully online MBA.”</p><p>JBS also has students from the public sector and entrepreneurs with their own businesses on the programme.</p><p> </p><p>“We work with adult education and with people who are already in a workspace. We need to equip them with skills to grow in their businesses.”</p>Embracing AI and preparing for the future<p>She considers artificial intelligence (AI), or any of the future technologies, useful enablers, and therefore, business schools need to utilise AI in the way they teach and deliver programmes, as well as show its impact on all spheres of business, as we do at JBS through digital transformation.</p><p>“We should rather work with AI than against it. Students all use AI to do their assignments. We need to work with them to show them what AI’s contribution can be to their own thinking and learning.”</p><p>This, and many other topical issues, were discussed at the recent AMBA/BGA Conference for Deans and Directors of Business Schools in Germany, attended by 430 people from 58 countries.</p><p> </p><p>“Most of the presentations and discussions were about the challenges that business schools have to deal with in 2025 and beyond.</p><p>“Main trends were the global geopolitical situation – mainly the changes in the US and their impact on higher education and the UK’s challenges post-Brexit; the economic uncertainty; the role of AI in teaching and assessments; changing the way we teach to Gen Z in future; jobs of the future and what to teach leaders of the future.”</p><p>Drotskie firmly believes that in the current complex economic landscape, an MBA qualification is most relevant.</p><p>“Given the complexity of the current worldwide economic landscape, it offers people working in the economy the competencies of critical thinking, problem-solving and design thinking.</p><p>“An MBA provides a leader or manager with a broad range of skills and knowledge across all the dimensions of business. It also gives them a world view as the focus is international or global.”</p><p>“Financial uncertainty is a global challenge that business schools currently face. A few years ago, companies paid for MBA studies, sponsoring students, but that is no longer the case. Picture: iStock</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>The life and death of David Mabuza, our former deputy president, gives so much insight into the ways and wiles of the organisation which raised him and which he championed – the ANC.</p><p>The party long ago moved from being a liberation movement to an organisation in which power was the currency because, through power came access to the levers of government power and, in turn, seemingly unlimited public funds.</p><p>Mabuza’s route to power suffered an early setback when he was fired from his position as Mpumalanga education MEC by the then premier, Mathews Phosa, after the province’s matric results were faked in the mid-1990s.</p><p>He bounced back by building party membership to where Mpumalanga became the ANC’s second largest province – with a corresponding number of delegates at national congresses.</p><p>He used his significant voting bloc to ensure the election and then re-election of Jacob Zuma to the office of party president.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> Rassie’s message rings loud: SA still reigns supreme </p> </p> </p><p>ALSO READ: Mchunu to report to ANC on Mkhwanazi’s allegations</p><p> </p><p> </p>The fall of “The Cat”<p>He stabbed Zuma in the back in 2017, throwing his province behind the CR17 campaign of Cyril Ramaphosa, enabling him to become president and make promises of a “new dawn” of clean government.</p><p>Clearly, Mabuza – known as “The Cat” because he had seemingly come back from death’s door after allegedly being poisoned – had expected he would one day get the highest office himself.</p><p>But when Ramaphosa stayed on for a second term and the succession path was murky, Mabuza bailed from active politics.</p><p>His history was accompanied by multiple claims of corruption, gangsterism and manipulation… something, to put it mildly, not unheard of in the ranks of ANC leaders.</p><p> </p><p>Mabuza’s life was a struggle to get to the top by whatever means and to enrich himself and his comrades along the way.</p><p>However, more and more people can see this is the way the ANC rolls. Picture: Gallo Images/Fani Mahuntsi</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>As the country prepares for a commission of inquiry into explosive allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, President Cyril Ramaphosa has handed the reins of the police ministry to law professor Firoz Cachalia.</p><p>Ramaphosa appointed Cachalia as interim police minister on Sunday night following his decision to place Mchunu on an immediate “leave of absence” after allegations of links to organised crime. </p><p>With Cachalia expected to take over the reins of the police ministry, here are a few things you need to know about him.</p>Who is Firoz Cachalia?<p>Cachalia, born in Benoni on 22 July 1958, is a globally-regarded scholar, Professor of Law at Wits University, and director of the Mandela Institute. His expertise spans constitutional law and other areas of specialisation.</p><p>Formerly an anti-apartheid activist in the Transvaal, he first joined the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 1994, representing the ANC as Speaker of the provincial legislature from 1999 to 2004.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> What now for Senzo Mchunu? Police minister’s career could be on the ropes </p> </p> </p><p>Cachalia is a veteran of the liberation movements and was also part of the well-known and politically active Cachalia family.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>ALSO READ: Ramaphosa’s decision to place Mchunu on leave of absence ‘an illusion of reform’</p><p>His brother is Judge Azhar Cachalia, and his cousin is the former DA MP Ghaleb Cachalia, among many other family leaders.</p>Career<p>After leaving the provincial government, he was appointed as a law professor at Wits University and, since 2022, as the chairperson of the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council.</p><p>Cachalia was Gauteng MEC for Community Safety from 2004 to 2009, which gives him some experience in police and security management.</p><p> </p><p>He was also the MEC for Economic Development from 2009 to 2010.</p>Police experience<p>The EFF has rejected Ramaphosa’s decision to appoint Cachalia, who is not a current member of Cabinet.</p><p>“This is a direct violation of Section 98 of the Constitution, which states: ‘The president may assign to a minister any power or function of another minister who is absent or otherwise unable to fulfil the functions of office,’” the EFF said.</p><p>The Constitution, however, does allow for two ministers to be appointed from outside of Parliament, which may allow Cachalia to act in the role going forward.</p><p> </p><p>Firoz’s brother, Azhar, was unavailable for comment when contacted byThe Citizen;however, his cousin, Ghaleb, defended his appointment.</p><p>“Firoz is well qualified to take on this position. He has a track record in public safety, and his qualifications in law are standing in good stead.”</p>Hands full<p>However, he does admit that Firoz will have his hands full.</p><p>“The problem is not Firoz necessarily, the problem is the systemic corruption in both ANC and the police, and that is going to be difficult to deal with. You know, a commission of inquiry has been instituted, but we know what has happened with commissions of inquiry. Police minister’s career could be on the ropes </p> </p> </p><p>Not only has the ANC government failed to bring to book any of the ministers and high-ranking officials identified by the Zondo commission, it appears to have allowed the corruption to continue and spread.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>If true, the revelations would collapse the already eroded moral authority of the police (Saps) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), as well as further tarnish the judiciary.</p><p>The criminal justice system would have to be revamped from top to bottom.</p><p>All key posts are filled by deployed ANC cadres. It is simply inconceivable that the crooked appointees will allow themselves to be ousted.</p><p>The claims made by Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KZN police commissioner, detail a society effectively controlled by a criminal collective under the protection of the Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and some of the Saps top brass.</p><p> </p><p>ALSO READ:Charges laid against Mchunu as pressure mounts on Ramaphosa to act amid national security concerns</p>A more dangerous second wave<p>If true, the scale of infiltration alleged here – let’s call it what it is, State Capture 2.0– would be a significant growth in malignancy when compared to its Zuma-era predecessor.</p><p>The cancer would have metastasised. It’s good to be reminded we have summer in Ireland, because in mid-winter it’s easy to forget that sometimes I do sleep with just a sheet on here, sometimes I do wear short sleeves.</p><p>I tiptoe into the hallway where I hear a strange fluttering: a red-breasted robin is sitting atop a picture frame, looking at me as if I’m the interloper.</p><p>Irish folklore would have it that a visiting robin is a guest from beyond the grave, but conversely, it also says that when a robin comes into your house, it signifies the death of a loved one. Me I’m just glad he’s visiting.</p><p>“Hello,” I whisper, noting the ajar window on the landing, clearly his entry point. I open the window all the way and go into the bathroom, but when I come out, he’s still there, now perched on the light fitting.</p><p>He flits to the bannister and then continues upstairs. I follow him slowly to the attic, where I open a skylight and sit on a step, waiting.</p><p>He considers this, considers me, and flies onto the rim.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>A few beats later, he’s gone. Mostly, I’ve been feeling like I’m in a holding pattern, waiting to hear feedback on a book project I’m passionate about, waiting to hear if I have been accepted into university to complete the final year of my BA, but I’m fast losing hope.</p><p>I’ve had no meaningful or indeed lucrative work for ages.</p><p> </p><p>I’ve put all my blue robin eggs into these two baskets – a BA or a book contract – but both seem to be falling apart. Uplifted by my bird visitor, I trot downstairs to let the dogs out.</p><p>It’s a mild, quiet morning, already shimmering with potential heat, and giant furry bumble bees are buzzing in the lavender. I go to rescue one that’s attracted doggy interest.</p><p>After a little investigation, I discovered these sweet, docile creatures are nesting in a hole under my red maple.</p><p>Their populations are in decline, and so I’m doubly delighted by this second visit from nature. I feel chosen; I feel like a Disney princess. There is hope. Picture: GCIS.</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>The Israeli government wants to start a dialogue with the SA government in an attempt to resolve their differences, but Pretoria has closed doors to talks, according to an Israeli envoy.</p><p>David Saranga, an Israeli diplomat on a visit to South Africa, said the International Court of Justice (ICJ) matter was the biggest challenge in the relationship between the countries.</p><p>South Africa has no embassy in Israel, so South Africans living in Israel have no consular services.</p><p>Yet there are significant volumes of trade between SA and Israel.</p><p>In an interview with The Citizen in Pretoria, Saranga, who is director of the Digital Diplomacy Bureau at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, said: “We may not see things in the same way, but there is need to have this dialogue.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> Israeli strikes kill children collecting water in Gaza </p> </p> </p><p>I don’t think it will be easy to reach an understanding on certain topics because we don’t see things in the same way, but we have to bridge this gap.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>ALSO READ: Israel-Iran conflict: South Africa can’t remain silent</p>Challenges in South Africa-Israel relations<p>Saranga has held a wide range of diplomatic postings, including being senior advisor to President Reuven Rivlin, acting deputy director-general for public diplomacy, Israeli ambassador to Romania, deputy ambassador to Bucharest, director of the EU Parliament liaison department, consul for media and public affairs at the Israel Consulate in New York and director of public affairs and spokesperson at the Israeli Embassy in Madrid, Spain.</p><p>“People in South Africa have very positive sentiments towards Israel. But when it comes to government, we see a harsh line,” Saranga said.</p><p>As well as the ICJ case, South Africa’s relations with Iran and Pretoria’s posture on the Gaza issue are other causes of tension.</p><p> </p><p>Saranga said although the South African ambassador left Israel, the Israeli embassy in Pretoria continued to function under the chargé d’affaires.</p><p>But International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola’s spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri, said SA supported the ICJ investigation into Hamas’ alleged war crimes committed against Israeli and victims of other nationalities on 7 October, 2023.</p><p>“We unequivocally condemned these attacks – but these attacks, heinous as they are, can never justify Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,” Phiri said.</p><p>Citing Amnesty International statistics, Phiri expressed concern about the continued “deliberate indiscriminate attacks often wiping out entire multigenerational families on the occupied Palestinian territory”.</p><p> </p><p>“Our support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination pursuant to the two-state solution is well documented.</p><p>“In relation to Iran, our position that states nuclear capacity should be limited to peaceful use is not only well documented, it is consistent,” Phiri said.</p><p>He said statements made by a large number of Israeli senior politicians and top state officials, and subsequent actions that led to the deaths of thousands of children and civilians “are rightfully before the ICJ”.</p><p>Saranga said Israeli bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities was justified and urged all countries that supported peace and stability in the Middle East to support the Israeli position in carrying out the attacks.</p><p> </p><p>He added: “Iran is a tyranny; human rights and gay rights are not respected in Iran and this is an issue that countries should raise against Iran.”</p><p>The Iranian embassy in Pretoria said it would respond at a later date to Saranga’s claims.</p><p>NOW READ: eThekwini rebuilds flood-damaged infrastructure after 2022 floods [Pics]</p> </p> <p> Read more on these topics Editor’s Choice Israel politics South Africa </p> Israel keen to resolve differences with South Africa	查看 4290	《公民报》	2025-07-14 13:01:00 2025-07-15 02:30:49	word

Picture: Matthew Lewis/ICC/Getty Images</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>Heading into the T20 International tri-series starting in Harare on Monday, South Africa will need to put their recent Test success behind them and focus on the task at hand, according to stand-in captain Rassie van der Dussen.</p><p>After winning the World Test Championship final against Australia last month, the SA team went on to beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in a Test series in Bulawayo last week, extending their winning streak to 10 matches on the trot in the red-ball format.</p><p>However, with a new-look squad (which includes four uncapped players) in the T20 tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, Van der Dussen admitted they couldn’t ride on the Test squad’s success and needed to ensure they were grounded ahead of the two-week campaign.</p><p>“We’ve definitely spoken about that in the squad, and for us the chat has been about how it’s really important to refocus. It’s a different format and a different challenge that lies ahead now,” said Van der Dussen, who will stand in as skipper for regular captain Aiden Markram who is being rested.</p><p>“The prep has been really good. It’s under investigation,” Kekana said. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>According to reports, his driver shot at the suspects, who fled, leaving a firearm behind in Kekana’s yard.</p><p>The attempted hijacking comes less than a day after President Cyril Ramaphosa placed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on an immediate “leave of absence” amid allegations of links to organised crime</p><p>ALSO READ: Acting police minister: Who is Feroz Cachalia and is he qualified?</p>Targets <p>Ian Cameron, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, told The Citizen that the police are being targeted.</p><p> </p><p>“I think they are being targeted, there’s no doubt. I think the good cops, along with the relevant whistleblowers on the outside, who provide support to them, whether from private institutions or civil society, there’s no doubt that they’re being targeted.</p><p>“Look at, for example, very competent and in my opinion beacons of integrity from the Hawks that have been assassinated over the past few years, and there are quite a few,” Cameron said.</p>High-profile <p>Cameron said he believes that high-ranking police officers are being targeted. </p><p>“In my opinion, especially when it comes to the higher-ranking assassinations, I think a lot of it is linked. </p><p> </p><p>“The more we scratch around on what General [Nhlanhla] Mkhwanazi said, no matter who you believe or don’t believe, it just seems that it’s a tip of the iceberg and then it’s a bigger syndicate type operation that has been operating in South Africa and at face value it sometimes seems to be normal state of business activity where in actual fact it’s a front for syndicated operations.”</p><p>Ramaphosa took actionafter KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi last week alleged that Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu interfered in police investigations. But to have that many operations and long term injuries, the biggest one was in the (Bok) squad in 2018, when I broke my neck. And to now, seven years later, be getting that cap, it’s amazing,” said Wiese.</p><p>“It was worth the wait. It’s that old cliché of don’t give up and keep on going, and it’s true. Every week I will work hard, like it’s my first one (appearance), just to get one more.”</p><p> </p><p> </p>Bok brothers<p>During the Boks’ entertaining win over Italy, Wiese was supposed to play alongside his older brother Jasper for the first time in their professional careers, but was unable to after the older Wiese received a red card in the first half for a headbutt on an opposition player.</p><p>Although they will now have to wait to feature together for the first time, they still added their names to a historic list of brothers who have represented the Springboks over the years, and Wiese admitted that he would support Jasper after his transgression, but would soon be giving him stick for it.</p><p>“I don’t think you can really put it into words (how special it is). We are the 37<sup>th</sup> pair of brothers in the history of Springbok rugby. So it’s an overwhelming sense of pride. When your brother is on the field or in the same team as you, it’s easy to get yourself up for it,” explained Wiese.</p><p>“Jasper started and went and cancelled himself for 60 minutes. If he had stayed on the pitch we probably would have played together for four or five minutes (before he would have been replaced).</p><p> </p><p>“So I will probably support him tonight (Saturday). The Red Bull KTM rider also finished the sprint race on Saturday in a season’s best sixth place which means he left Germany with a healthy 13 championship points. Such a long race and a lot of guys going down,” Binder told the KTM website after the German Grand Prix.</p><p>“It was chaos out there and very tricky for the front end. 3206815	有图 <p> Willie le Roux is now the eighth Springbok centurion, and will likely slip behind Damian Willemse and Aphelele Fassi in the fullback pecking order. </p> <p> <img src="https://media.citizen.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Willie-le-Roux-2-1.jpg" rel="noopener noreferrer"> <p>Springbok centurion Willie le Roux runs onto the field before the start of their match against Italy at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday night.Picture: Anton Geyser/Gallo Images</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>Saturday was a special day for Springboks stalwart Willie le Roux and the city of Gqeberha as the Boks turned on the style to whitewash Italy 45-0 in their second Test of the incoming series at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.</p><p>For Le Roux it was his landmark 100<sup>th</sup>appearance for the national team, and although he produced a mixed bag, with a few mistakes coupled with some moments of brilliance, including a chipped try assist, it was the perfect way to celebrate with a big result.</p><p>It will now be interesting to see what the Boks‘ plans are for 35-year-old Le Roux, who is the eighth Springbok centurion, as he has arguably been passed in the fullback pecking order by Damian Willemse and Aphelele Fassi.</p>Springbok dream<p>“I said it earlier in the week, that it was my dream to play for the Springboks since I was six years old. I wanted to play rugby, I wanted to make it work, even if I had to go a different route,” said Le Roux after the match.</p><p>“So just to be here today with my wife and my family, to celebrate this milestone of my 100<sup>th</sup>cap in South Africa was amazing. There was a job to do first, so it was quite hard to try and balance that emotion and not do something stupid at the start (of the match), because you want to show something.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>“When I ran out on my own it was very emotional and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was just waiting for the team to come out. So it was very special and I am thankful for it.”</p><p>For Gqeberha it was a fantastic night with the Springboks finally back in the city in all their splendour, and a full house of boisterous fans were on hand to cheer their team from the first whistle to the last, as they produced a terrific atmosphere.</p><p>It was the first game in the city since 2021, when they played Argentina in the Rugby Championship behind closed doors due to Covid, and the first in front of fans, when they played Australia, also in the Rugby Championship.</p>Eastern Cape locals<p>A number of members in the Springboks squad are from the region, including coach Rassie Erasmus, assistant coach Mzwandile Stick, regular captain Siya Kolisi and wing Makazole Mapimpi, so it was a special homecoming for them as well.</p><p> </p><p>“It was really nice (to be here). As I have said before different stadiums have different vibes. Bloemfontein, Mbombela and PE (Gqeberha) all have a special vibe in the sense that while you warm up the whole crowd is in already,” said Erasmus.</p><p>“In other stadiums, only after the warmup and just as the Test is going to begin does everyone come in. So you already feel the support from the warmup. That’s not to say other stadiums are not supportive, they all have different atmospheres that carry us through the game.</p><p>“But this was a loud crowd, even during a few of our difficult spells, they were lifting us and we all enjoyed it. As for (those of) us that come from here, it was extra special. You could see Stokke (Stick), was a bit emotional, as well as Mapimpi and myself.</p><p>“It’s a place where we would love rugby to thrive, because it is where we started our rugby journeys, and were taught the ropes. This crowd misses the Springboks and international rugby and they showed that through their support. Even with Willie who isn’t from here, they loved and supported him. Picture: Gallo Images</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>Chairperson of the portfolio committee on police, Ian Cameron, has questioned the urgency of the commission of inquiry to probe the explosive allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.</p><p>Addressing the nation on Sunday night, Ramaphosa placed Mchunu on a leave of absence after allegations made against him by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.</p>Allegations of infiltration<p>Mkhwanazi claimed Mchunu interfered in police investigations and has an improper relationship with police service provider Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.</p><p>Ramaphosa said the commission would investigate allegations of infiltration of law enforcement, intelligence and associated institutions within the criminal justice system by criminal syndicates.</p>‘Golden opportunity missed’<p>Cameron told The Citizen on Monday that despite senior police officials being linked to an organised criminal syndicate in Gauteng, no action will be taken against them for the next six months.</p><p> <p> <p> <p> Read more </p> What now for Senzo Mchunu? Police minister’s career could be on the ropes </p> </p> </p><p>“To be honest, I lost my trust in commissions and without disregarding the new commission led by Judge [Mbuyiseli] Madlanga,” Cameron said. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>“It would be unfair to criticise the new commission or to criticise him as a judge; you need to be given the opportunity.</p><p>“But generally speaking, when I hear the word commission, I needed to think of someone just kicking from the sideline. I think that, in essence, it seems to be what it has become. It makes sure that, for example, the president doesn’t need to make a decision; it makes sure that there are no immediate consequences for anyone implicated.</p><p>“I mean, there’s just so much more that could’ve been done, and purely just making that announcement last night, and it was a golden opportunity that was missed,” Cameron said.</p><p>ALSO READ: Acting police minister: Who is Firoz Cachalia and is he qualified</p><p> </p>‘Fruitless and wasteful expenditure’<p>With Mchunu on special leave and Ramaphosa appointing Professor Firoz Cachalia as acting police minister, Cameron said paying the two ministers is wasteful expenditure.</p><p>“I think it actually touches on fruitless and wasteful expenditure. I mean, we are paying double the price now for basically two police ministers, while we actually don’t know how long Minister Mchunu will be on his leave period.</p><p>“We can speculate about the three and six months. But in actual fact, we really don’t know, so we are paying double for that time, and we don’t know what the relevant performance agreement is, what the instruction is that’s been given to Professor Cachalia, what the outcomes that he needs to reach. I think it is reckless with public funds,” Cameron said.</p><p>ALSO READ:Ramaphosa’s decision to place Mchunu on leave of absence ‘an illusion of reform’</p><p> </p>Cachalia can do the job<p>With Mchunu put on special leave, Ramaphosa handed the reins of the police ministry to law professor Firoz Cachalia.</p><p>Cameron said Cachalia may be up to the job of acting police minister.</p><p>“I think in terms of qualifications, I couldn’t find anything that proves him to be unfit. I went through it last night, and I must say that in terms of exposure to the criminal justice space, not only academically, but also practically, it gives him a lot of experience.</p><p>“But I think it’s going to be an extremely difficult environment to navigate. He may not have many trusted individuals or colleagues right around him inside that environment, and I also think that, because of the political instability in that space at the moment, it certainly is not going to be an easy task. But in terms of him being competent enough, I think he can do the job,” Cameron said.</p><p> </p>Who is Cachalia<p>Cachalia, born in Benoni on 22 July 1958, is a globally-regarded scholar, professor of Law at Wits University, and director of the Mandela Institute. Picture: GCIS</p> </p><p> </p> <p> <p>A host of serious allegations by a whistleblower against the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) CEO Advocate Makhosini Msibi led to him being placed on precautionary suspension effective from 1 July 2025.</p><p>Moneyweb is in possession of four emails sent to the Public Protectorby the whistleblower between 7 June 2025 and 1 July 2025 containing allegations against Msibi.</p><p>The emails were copied to a number of parties, including the Department of Transport (DoT), parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) chair Songezo Zibi and The Presidency.</p><p>Some contained “supporting documents”, with the whistleblower making a “formal request for an investigation into financial misconduct, irregular expenditure and governance failures” at the RTMC.</p><p>They include allegations of financial misconduct, irregular procurement, abuse of authority and governance failures under the leadership of Msibi.</p><p>ALSO READ: RTMC CEO suspended amid misconduct probe</p><p> </p><p> </p>A ‘pattern’<p>Eight specific issues were raised, with the whistleblower stressing that these matters reflect “a pattern of financial mismanagement, executive overreach and disregard for governance principles”.</p><p>“I respectfully request that your office initiate a full and independent investigation into the matters raised.”</p><p>Among the issues raised:</p>Acknowledgement of financial crisis without accountability, with it alleged thatMsibi on 31 May 2025 issued a circular to all staffacknowledging the RTMC “is in a dire financial state, facing severe liquidity constraints and an unsustainable fiscal position”. A letter allegedly issued by the Auditor-General refers to R33.48 million in overspending against the total RTMC adjusted budget. The whistleblower said this admission is accurate but Msibi “fails to account for the root causes of this crisis, which are directly linked to a series of financial decisions he personally took – often against the explicit recommendations of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)”.Irregular CEO contract extension and misuse of state resources, with it alleged that Msibi’s contract extension is non-compliant with the RTMC Act and did not involve a public advertisement of the post or include the required concurrence from the minister of finance, with these omissions rendering the extension procedurally irregular and potentially unlawful.<p>ALSO READ: </p><p> </p>RTMC board on board with contract extension?<p>The whistleblower claims the justification provided by the RTMC board for Msibi’s contract extension was that it was necessary to ensure “stability in management” ahead of national elections.</p><p>However, this reason “does not meet the standard for lawful deviation from statutory requirements” and “this rationale sets a dangerous precedent and appears to be a clear abuse of authority and process”.</p><p>A further claim is that Msibi’s contract extension does not entitle him to the use of a company vehicle.</p><p>Yet Msibi allegedly continues to unlawfully use a state-owned vehicle in direct contravention of this.</p><p> </p><p>“This constitutes a misuse of public assets and a breach of ethical governance principles,” the whistleblower states.</p><p>“This matter warrants urgent investigation, as it reflects continued disregard for governance frameworks and a pattern of executive overreach.”</p><p>ALSO READ: </p>Additional allegations<p>Some of the other allegations made by the whistleblower relate to:</p><p> </p>Procurement of mobile vehicle testing stations (MVTS) for the Western Cape, which was allegedly approved by Msibi at a cost of about R25 million despite the CFO’s clear written objection due to lack of budget, resulting in concerns about a possible undisclosed relationship between Msibi and the MVTS supplier.The approval of salary adjustments for more than 250 traffic officers at a cost of about R22 million, which was allegedly not recommended by the CFO because of affordability concerns but overruled by Msibi.The unbudgeted relocation of the RTMC to new offices before December 2024 at a cost of R47 million, including setup and furnishing costs, when this expenditure was allegedly not included in the approved budget.<p>Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy confirmed on Friday morning during an exclusive one-on-one interview with Moneyweb that Msibi has been suspended.</p><p>She says the RTMC board told her it had received allegations against Msibi that it is investigating.</p><p>ALSO READ: Outa highlights widespread fraud at vehicle roadworthiness testing stations</p>Hastily prepared announcement<p>Follow-up questions about Msibi’s suspension by Moneyweb to the Transport Ministry and RTMC on Friday resulted in both parties hastily issuing a general media statement shortly before 3.30pm – a few hours after Creecy’s confirmation of Msibi’s suspension to Moneyweb – instead of responding directly Moneyweb.</p><p> </p><p>It is believed the Transport Ministry wanted to avoid a media outlet being the first to disclose Msibi’s suspension.</p><p>The DoT said in its statement the RTMC board indicated in its letter to the Transport Ministry that it took the decision to suspend Msibi following whistleblowing allegations of financial misconduct, irregular expenditure and governance failures at the entity.</p><p>“Based on the seriousness of the allegations, the board has taken a decision toinstitute a forensic investigation into these allegations,” it said.</p><p>The DoT said Msibi will be on precautionary suspension for a period of 30 days,extendable to 60 days, or any further period as may be reasonably necessary.</p><p>Refilwe Mongale has been appointed Interim RTMC CEO with effect from 1 July 2025 until further notice “to ensure continuity and stability within the RTMC while the forensic investigation is underway”.</p><p>ALSO READ: Outa: Public misled about driving licence card validity</p>Why the delay in announcing Msibi’s suspension?<p>There was a lack of transparency up until Friday about Msibi’s suspension, which is in stark contrast to, for instance, the way the Road Accident Fund (RAF) CEOCollins Letsoalo’s suspension was announced.</p><p>The DoT statement said Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa was officially informed of Msibi’s precautionary suspension by the RTMC Board following a board meeting held on 13 June 2025, with Msibi’s precautionary suspension coming into effect on 1 July 2025.</p><p>Msibi’s suspension was announced 11 days after the effective date.</p><p>In the RAF case, public announcements were made by the Transport Ministry within hours of a RAF board decision about Letsoalo being placed on special leave and subsequently when the RAF board rescinded that decision and suspended Letsoalo for insubordination because of his alleged refusal to attend a meeting of Scopa.</p><p>ALSO READ: RTMC condemns corruption, calls for tougher sentences</p>Where there’s smoke …<p>Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) CEO Wayne Duvenage says the RTMC would not have suspended Msibi unless the allegations against him were sufficiently substantiated to warrant his suspension.</p><p>He says the RTMC had members on the bid adjudication committee for the new driving licence card machine – adding that Outa could clearly see there was wrongdoing, yet the RTMC did not.</p><p>The Auditor-General earlier this year found that the award of a tender worth R898 million by the Driving Licence Card Account (DLCA) to IDEMIA Identity and Security South Africa for the production of the new driving licence card was irregular.</p><p>This led to Creecy instructing the DoT to lodge a high court application for a
